Today is Rio’s birthday! She probably didn’t intend to celebrate it online only… in any case, I hope she can still be happy and successful both as an idol and as a college student. By the way she shot her first calendar, for 2021 (let’s hope it will be better) and here are the photos I managed to snatch from the net!

Two and a half years later, I come back on this topic. Rio has abandoned gravure (or her agency made her quit it) and started an acting career. I made this post to say that she made it on Netflix as a part of a Japanese short series about sumo, but I think it’s a mixed blessing.

For starters, it’s a show about sumo so outside of Japan it probably doesn’t have much of an audience, also she plays the part of a hostess, that is a high-class call girl basically, and it’s not among the first billed (but it’s not a cameo or a bit part either) so people will probably not mind much about her and will see her as just eye candy. Which is part of the point but she probably hoped for something more. Also her scenes are some of the more comedic in nature (though her character is not a wholesome one) so maybe those who only looked forward to the fight scenes won’t care about those.

Playing a ditzy character also may make audience see her as annoying, though as usual for her roles there’s more than meets the eye and there’s a scene where she has a different attitude, which however is starting to become a cliche for her of the wholesome girl who however has issues or is nasty/angry/manipulative or what have you (I enjoy it btw).
There’s also a bit of nudity that I didn’t even notice because it lasts a fraction of a second, however people who lambasted her for leaving gravure because she saw it as beneath her (or so they claim) are having a field day in mocking her and saying she should get into porn, as usual.

As you can see she’s still quite cute and her toothy grin is always bright even if she didn’t completely fix her front teeth yet (this show was made a couple years ago apparently).

her next show that started airing just yesterday in Japan is about a group of “girlfriends for rent” as far as I can understand. I think she plays the part of a girl who wants to have flings without being in a real relationship. Could be interesting.

I saw some of it and it did not disappoint in terms of undressing and partially clothed sex scenes (as much as you can do in a mainstream show anyway). I can’t link to the clips at the moment though.
