Oh was an aspiring actress.
Born 1984/1/4, Oh made her film debut in 2011. Her appearance in an orange dress at a movie premiere got her a lot of press. The dress was self-sewn and started to slip a bit, becoming more revealing that she probably intended. After that she was only offered ‘sexy girl roles’. Even those dried up and she was rarely seen on screen after 2014. She tried some new avenues as a beauty vlogger on YouTube, opened a florist shop and even tried getting into K-pop. She was found unconscious in her home and passed away later in the evening of September 14, 2020. Investigations ruled cardiac arrest due to suicide.
The entertainment industry in South Korea is a tough business. Performers get into long-term contracts with management companies and undergo years of training with a lot of rules to follow, and even if they do everything right success is still not assured. Throw in the social media mobs who weigh in on any perceived mistake and it’s a wonder there aren’t more cases like Oh.
She was a beautiful woman. RIP

That is sad. Entertainment is a brutal industry with a few big winners and many losers. And, of course, many people in the industry have personalities that need a lot of attention. Thanks for the pictures of her in the orange dress so we can see what started it all.

Such beautiful and talented women too have to deal with depression as well. Rest in Peace this beauty. Also RIP CoCo Lee who just recently lost that battle as well.

Good post. Sad post.

Too many suicides in Korean entertainment to list them all. It must be an awful environment for young women. One of the most shocking was Lee Eun-ju, aged 24, maybe in part because of the nude scenes in The Scarlet Letter (a good movie).
