We came up a little short in the Miss Universe Pageant last week.
Miss Thailand was the runner-up, and although we personally would have picked her as the winner, Miss Nicaragua was undeniably gorgeous. Once again, mysteriously, the choices leaned heavily into Hispanic women, with nine being chosen in the top 20. We found it interesting that after Miss India commented on their diversity (she was one of five Asian women to make it into that group, or six if we include Miss South Africa who is of Indian descent), that first cut saw four blacks make it, with Miss Australia the lone Caucasian. That seemed a bit short on diversity. There were some very attractive European women but, as has been the case lately, they get short shrift.
In addition to having the first contestant who was a mother compete this year, they also had the first “plus sized model”, and two transgender women. It was a bit disconcerting when the owner of the organization, a Thai billionaire who is also transgender, spoke without attempting a feminine voice. These may have been contributing factors which saw the stock value of ownership dropping 80% over the last year, causing the organization to file for bankruptcy days before the pageant.
Miss Thailand, Anntonia Porsild aka Ann, who is Danish on her father’s side, made it, as earlier noted, to runner-up. Drop-dead gorgeous, she was the first Thai woman to win the Miss Supranational Pageant in 2019. She caught a little heat in this year’s Miss Universe contest, with some viewers saying her outfits were a little too revealing, as they suggested nudity. It was also thought she was not magnanimous enough when Miss Nicaragua’s name was announced as the winner. She’s a winner in our book.

Ironically, my only complaint is that her outfits don’t suggest enough nudity.

When I think of Thailand she isn’t the face that comes to mind.
