Jihae Kim is a South Korean singer–songwriter.

I confess I’d never heard of Jihae myself until I saw her on the National Geographic drama series Mars. She seems to be a natural actress, and will appear in the upcoming feature film Mortal Engines. Born in Seoul, she’s lived all over the globe and graduated with a degree in Political Science from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia had planned to be a diplomat (as was her father), before moving to New York and becoming a multimedia artist. Although she has a bit of a masculine look (particularly when she has short hair), I think she’s attractive.

    Sorry, not for me …

I used to hang out with her a lot 10 years ago. She is much prettier in person. I agree these pictures don’t do much for her.

    raconnection,

That comment was totally unacceptable—please state your opinion in a more respectful manner.

I hope everyone else can state their opinion respectfully too. I personally don’t find her attractive at all either, but there are right ways and wrong ways of saying that.

Any chance to see better pictures somewhere?

I like her long hair better…she is sexy. I’d be happy to hang out with her for sure

    Dr. Lee,

Unacceptable?!? Why?? Please clarify your site comment restrictions!

I can see why she doesn’t appeal to some, but I find her quite striking. The longer hair does soften her look, I don’t doubt that in person she makes a better impression.

Just not really attracted to her.

WOW, with longer hair she is amazing !!! Shorter hair looks to masculine :( . Too bad as it effected my perception of her in the National Geographic series…MARS.

    raconnection,

As I said, please state your opinion respectfully. For example: “I don’t find her attractive”, instead of “she’s ugly, yuck!”.

    Dr. Lee,

It’s interesting how people, in general, who aren’t stirred enough to comment on sirens whom they find attractive (or at least not unattractive) suddenly find their voice to call out sirens they find @$#!%#(fill in harsh comment here).

    Dr. Lee,
All in all, you have not responded by clearly stating what comments are considered acceptable or not. Certainly I have seen many “butterface” comments on this site previously.

I DID preface my comment with an adoration of Korean ladies in general and ONLY added the “y” word YOU stated. YOU added the “u” word.

Am I allowed to reference how she reminds me of a male UFC fighter??

She may have a unique look but she should not be called ugly or yuck in anyway. Some of these degrading comments I have seen, or missed, I would be curious what he poster actually looks like and if they are as perfect looking as they expect these woman that are posted?

I’m sorry, but that’s just silly. How is that in any way relevant? If you’re a model or someone who puts yourself out on the Internet, not every reaction is going to be positive. There’s a place for critical comments, so long as they aren’t harsh and over the top. That said, saying “yuck” does seem counter to the general spirit here, but we also shouldn’t put words in his mouth if he didn’t actually say them.

@Bill – No quotas, it was an observation to which, I believe, this post lends credence. How living in Korea or being married to a Korean informs anyone else how they should view a “siren” as being beautiful or not seems not to hold water, “Surely beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” A siren like Jihae may be attractive although I, myself, am not attracted.

I think you’re making more of this than you need to. There has been a bit of a tilt lately toward comments that were a bit too harsh and I believe Dr. Lee just wants to nudge us all back into a more civil lane. The general idea has been put forth now so there’s not really a need for more to be said.

A sincere thanks for the kudos.

    raconnection,

I cited general examples which should explain things fairly well—I didn’t claim to quote you verbatim. And yes, saying she reminds you of a male UFC fighter is tantamount to saying she’s ugly. Imagine she is reading your comments when you write them.

Saying she’s ‘EXTREMELY-polar-opposite of beautiful’ is also pretty insulting—as is implying she’s ‘fug…’—and furthermore, you had the gall to quote the comment I already deleted. As such, you have a generally disrespectful attitude as well. So that’s two strikes already (indeed, arguably three)—one more and you’re out.

Oh and one more thing: remember your opinions are just that—opinions—and not objective facts. Therefore, resist the temptation to state them as such.

You’re out! I’m sorry, but it’s not my problem that you are unable to understand the concept of basic manners. —the Doc
