Doris Yeh

This is Doris Yeh, bassist for Taiwanese symphonic black metal band Chthonic (she is nicknamed “Thunder Tears” in the group).

Doris began playing piano at age six, and much later the bass (her father is a bassist). She began to devote herself entirely to the bass in all-girl cover band Evil Eyes, which she formed in high school with her friends.

She became the bassist and sometime singer for Chthonic in 1999. She and lead singer Freddy Lim are vocal political activists and proponents of human rights in Taiwan.

Her name “Doris” comes from high school, when her English teacher asked her what name she’d like in English. She thought of the group The Cranberries and its lead singer, Dolores O’Riordan, but pronounced it as Do_Ro_Es. Her teacher thought she said “Doris” and she ended up keeping the name.

She went on to become Chthonic’s spokesperson and business manager (taking over from Lim), and became recognised as a model and sex symbol, making the covers of several magazines including FHM, Revolver and Taiwan HQ.

In 2009 she made her first appearance on television in Cheng Wen-Tang’s police drama Tears, playing Xuan Xuan.

Her favorite bands are Iron Maiden, Nine Inch Nails, Slayer, Emperor and At The Gates.
