In the SE Asian country formerly known as the Land of Smiles, the government is moving to impose a single internet gateway. The reason is that it will allow repelling hackers easier than multiple gateways. But on the other hand, it would supposedly be easier to control internet content going in and out of the country.

Activists have garnered a petition and have staged protests, but there would seem to be little hope.

So if some AS members suddenly disappear in the near future, this could be the reason.

In relation to this, it would seem the Trump administration is committed to killing net neutrality—scary stuff.

    Rob, Doc, et. al.:

Killing net neutrality is nearly the same as restricting internet pathways. Service providers will control access like highway men. Commercial and political interests with deep pockets will have mega speed and huge bandwidths, making it difficult or impossible to access competing marginal interests, like AS. Even worse, internet service providers will be able to control content too, perhaps effectively closing many anarchist occupier sites, alternative art and music, and even pornography.

I didn’t like (was repulsed) by the Clintons and voted Libertarian. Now I live in fear and loathing as an authoritarian regime looms menacingly in the immediate future:

In the latest news here, the govt says it’s moving against illegal and “inappropriate” websites. They’ll get the ISPs to block them. So my time here in AS may be limited, unless I get cute and go through a proxy. Anyone have experience with proxies?

Anyway, it’s been fun sharing with all of you. Best of luck to you all as well.
