Vanessa Nguyen

Vanessa Nguyen is a gorgeous girl who I’m happy to say is the latest addition to our featured profiles, but there’s more to Vanessa than a beautiful smile: a blogger for rare diseases, foodie, traveler, animal lover and graduate student, Vanessa has a really interesting back story.

Vanessa has spent several years dealing with Cushing’s disease, a rare disease affecting only 10 people in a million. It is hard to diagnose (it took Vanessa 5 years) as it’s often a combination of symptoms, some of the physical effects include bloating, weight gain and acne combined with psychological effects like fatigue, anxiety and loss of emotional control—it is a really debilitating condition.

As a model it was especially confronting as so much emphasis is placed on your looks, and she went through some very dark times. Rather than let it get the better of her, Vanessa fought to overcome the disease and raise awareness through her blog, tracking her progress and recovery. It’s a very interesting insight into Cushing’s and shows the strength of Vanessa as a person. She is very open and posts pictures that capture just how extreme the physical effects are, as well as lots of pics of her dogs and boyfriend, who seems to be a pretty awesome dude who has supported her through the journey.

Thankfully, while I’m sure the recovery continues, Vanessa is back and looking fantastic. Rather than being resentful she tells me her battle helped her look inside and gain an inner strength and discover qualities beyond her appearance. Fingers crossed her modeling career gets back on track because she is absolutely stunning and definitely deserves a break.
