Ariana Miyamoto (Miss Universe Japan)

Ariana Miyamoto was brought to my attention via the suggest post, where a couple of you good gents were kind enough to provide a few links.

Ariana got caught up in a controversy after winning Japan’s Miss Universe crown. Apparently she didn’t look Japanese enough. Ariane grew up in Sasebo, Nagasaki and her father is an American. Apparently Japan is one of the least ethnically diverse countries in the world (and seemingly least tolerant), and her win caused quite a stink. Ariane was compelled to respond to criticism on social media, stating while she doesn’t ‘look Japanese’ on the outside, on the inside, there are ‘many Japanese things about her’.

It’s pretty sad that at just 20 she has to deal with such prejudice, although I assume that she has been putting up with similar attitudes for much longer. Hopefully she uses her time with the crown to help educate and change some attitudes. I think that in a competition where Asian entries have a pretty poor record, her unique look might ultimately prove more successful.

It’s a beauty pageant – and Aririana is certainly beautiful.

    Looks like Miss Botswana.

Not sure if tomk1488’s comment was a bit racist or simply an comparative observation (I don’t know what Miss Botswana looks like), but I wonder if her dad was in fact African American. Whatever the case, the genes have worked out pretty bloody well here. Very attractive lady. But bizarrely enough, she doesn’t have enough “sex appeal” for me. Very beautiful, but she just doesn’t bring out the “holy crap I wanna bang her” voice in my head.

    smellykev,

I think Miss Universe aims for a more wholesome vibe. At least that’s the impression that I get.

I think she is quite pretty and lovely, and an inspired choice for Miss Universe Japan.

I hope she gets a high placing at the Miss Universe pageant, mostly to counter the notion that a white and asian mix is the ideal beauty standard.

    Smellykev,

A bit too quick with the “racist” label. We’re all drawn here to a site called “Asian Sirens” because of the look of the Asian woman (racist?) and you’re offended if someone calls attention to the black traits of a beautiful woman who had a black father, and the poster is suddenly racist?

You all need to get thicker skin. If you don’t like putting beautiful women into categories then why are you here?

Actually she’s half black and half Japanese, born and raised in Japan.

Found an article here (may need to use Google Translate)

    TivoMan,

You misunderstand me TivoMan. I just thought the Miss Botswana comment was a bit questionable. I’m all for discussions about race and parentage. In any case, we’re only assuming her dad is black, but really he could be Latino or whatever. Whatever the case, he sure has a pretty daughter.

And if he had said she looks like Miss Croatia would someone had said, “Whoa man, easy with the racist comments!” No, of course not. But of course as soon as someone treads anywhere near a black comment the race card is immediately played. It waters down the whole racism charge and should be used only in the most extreme cases, regardless of what site anyone is on.

As to whether her father is black, we all have the Internet in our pockets. It takes 30 seconds to find of that in fact she did have a black father. And the Afro-Asian mix was exactly what caused the stink in Japan. Japan is not a melting pot like America and they would rather have a more Japanese looking woman represent their country in the Miss Universe contest. It may seem odd to you and I – it does not to them.

And since you and I are both surfing this Asian lady site daily, it should’t surprise either of us at all that the Japanese appreciate and prefer the “asian” look over all others.

Gee, that set off quite a discussion.

I enjoyed the comments. Very decent and intelligent people on this website.

I certainly enjoy the beauty of Japanese women and have held such an appreciation since my teenage years. My heritage is German/Irish, by the way.

    tomk1488,

You do have an interesting ‘name’ by the way.

If I am not mistaken, the number combination 1488 is very distinct and is widely used by those in the white separatist and ‘racialist’ movement. Yes, many of us are quite aware of many things in this world.

I wonder if that crossed smellykev’s mind also.

Because at its face value, saying Ariana looks like Miss Botswana doesn’t particularly sound racist.

I’m happy this exchange didn’t descend into insults (unlike one other comment from a new poster that I had to delete), but it was probably a little more heated than was strictly necessary. For the record, initially tomk1488′s comment gave me pause as well, although as you can see I ultimately gave him the benefit of the doubt and let it through. So I completely understand kev’s concerns, but I also agree with the spirit of Tivoman’s comments. Ultimately, I think Tivoman overreacted a little bit (after all, kev did say he wasn’t sure of tomk1488′s actual intent), but once again, I totally agree with his general point.

My comment was cheeky. I am known for twisting the tiger’s tail.

No true white supremacist would ever look twice at an Asian girl. I have cast approving glances so many times you would have to take your boots off to make the count (in thousands).

However, 18 did state that the Japanese were the, “Aryans of the East!”

Oddly enough Yahoo news has continued this well known story today.

Just how many toes do you have tomk???

I wonder if tomk stands for Tom Keen, a character on the American TV series “The Blacklist” who this season went undercover as a neo-Nazi in Germany, complete with SS neck tattoos and a tattoo on his back that reads “Deutschland für die Deutschen.” Seems a bit too coincidental to me when the 1488 is added on.

  17. Avatar of wingsfan19

BTW, I think even the tat lovers and defenders can hate on those tattoos (at least I would hope so).

She doesn’t look very Asian; reminds me of Gabrielle Union who also is mixed. Looks like there are a lot of ethnicities she would appear to be. That said, she’s fine as hell.
Since it was thrown out there, I think a lot of the reason men are drawn to Asian women is due to the dominance fantasy. I’m a fan of beautiful women regardless of ethnicity, however a lot of these models look underage, which probably reinforces the fantasy (and creeps me out although they are of age).
But I like ‘em older anyway, which is why my favorite posting of late is Reiko Kobayakawa. She’s hot as hell!!!!

Good catch. I’ve noticed tomk doesn’t address or explain his handle.

And I doubt it’s true across the board that no white supremacist would ever look twice at an asian girl.

It’s almost like the forbidden fruit to some of them. They long and lust for asian women, but are conflicted by the company they keep that such thoughts are evil.

I’d never take her for being even part Japanese if I didn’t already know who she is, but what puzzles me is ….she was Miss Nagasaki before Miss Universe Japan and she had probably competed in regional pageants before that.

A girl needs sponsors to compete in those pageants and she needs votes from judges to win those pageants. Those sponsors and judges must have been Japanese, so if they were bothered by her look, why did they support her and why did they give her the high marks to win those pageants??

Evidently, the Japanese judges whom she’s appeared before, and gave her winning marks, didn’t have a problem with her look, otherwise, I’m sure they would have given her lower scores to ensured she didn’t win.

    CEC,

I’m sure there are gripes no matter who wins, I think in this case it was something the press could latch onto to make a story.

nice looking girl! her dad is definitely at least part african american. she doesn’t look japanese indeed but it’s not a bad thing in her case. she would have looked even better with a bigger bust though!

Exactly, and I would venture that white supremacists don’t necessarily view every other race the same way. In other words, they may have a stronger dislike for blacks and Jews than Asians (especially the lighter skinned ones?).

Tomk was beyond a shadow of a doubt making a offensive racial comment designed to denigrate. His lame excuse of a true white supremacist not look at girls of other races is inherently untrue. I agree completely with his right to express himself in such an offensive manner. Just not on this site.

I find it quite surprising that anyone – even a white supremacist (if there are any here) – wouldn’t know how absurdly and obviously fallacious a claim it is to say that a white racist wouldn’t be sexually attracted to a non-white woman. Even if you don’t take a moment to think about human nature (and racism – not as simple as some think) – just a modicum of historical knowledge should clue you in: for an easy example, are people unaware of how common it was for slave owners and the most virulent racists of Jim Crow South (USA)to have a lust and even fetish for Black women (and men)?

And living in Southeast Asia as long as I have, Ive met more than one racist into Asian women. Loads of them, in fact.
