Waveya Moves to Allegro con fuoco from Dvořák’s 9th

The above video features an abbreviated, 3-minute version of “Allegro con fuoco” from Antonín Dvořák’s New World Symphony, traditionally know as Symphony No. 9, which is by far his most popular musical work. This video features Korean dance team Waveya (first featured here) and was produced by B-Classic, to promote their annual classical music festival, happening this month in Belgium.

More info on the festival is available at B-Classic’s official website. For more on Waveya, whose above and current line-up consists of mainstays Ari and MiU, along with new members Rumi, Yess, and Jin, you can check out their Facebook fan page, which is pretty much the best English source for current info on them. Of course, they also have a Youtube channel, Twitter, and a Daum Cafe fan site in Korean.

    Ahhh…..the classics!

You want to get people into classical music? THIS is how we do it.

Doc, you are a Music Man. What say you?

    French,

I say this is proof that K-pop girls do exactly the same dance moves in every K-pop video, no matter what the music is. I do not see much connection between the music and the dance here: you could plug in the latest K-pop hit and it would work at least as well—indeed, almost certainly much better. K-pop is the logical conclusion of the complete and utter commercialisation of music into a commodity, which has nothing to do with music itself, or art in general.

    You did ask. :)

I never can decide who I love more, Ari or MiU.
Good that it said “you just listened to 3 minutes of classical music” at the end. I went back and checked and there was music. Didn’t notice it the first time.

I’m pretty sure that was exactly what Dvořák had in mind when he wrote that music.

I would have picked some different outfits, but this was a great reminder of why I love Korean women.

Listen. These women are beautiful. But this dance thing to Dvořák just doesn’t work. There are real choreographers out there. Apologies to the creator of this but.. apologies for the rant

    Do not like the mix

My initial reaction was – a waste of good music – and I haven’t subsequently changed my mind.

I don’t find that any of these girls meet my taste standards in the face department.
