The AVN Adult Entertainment Expo which is typically held in the later half of January after CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, is a porn convention that I always wanted to attend in person.

The convention and award show was held at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel on January 21st through the 24th. As I was looking through news and updated from the event, I thought that it was interesting to see the Japanese porn website R18.com with a presence at the convention. Along with the display booth, the website brought JAV stars Hitomi Tanaka and Anri Okita along to Las Vegas to help promote the site and meet with fans.

I’m not used to seeing or hearing about a Japanese pornsite at a western event such as AEE. I’m assuming that their booth presence went well. From the photos and videos, it looks like the crowds in attendance were treated to a tasty exhibit in more ways than one.

Cindy – Ice Cream Popiah Maker

I’m not sure why a news story from 2013 featuring an ice cream popiah vendor from Taiwan has once again gone viral in November 2014, but some things require no explanation. Plus I don’t want to be left out of the discussion either.

The tasty Cindy, sells the equally as tasty peanut ice cream popiah (crepe) dessert at the River Street Night Market in Taipei’s Songshan district, and has appeared in the local news to demonstrate how to make them. I guess there’s a new contingent of people such as myself who are now finding out about Cindy and drooling over her desserts which has caused the story to be shared around the internet once again.

Nina Pham

On a more serious note, I wanted to take a moment to discuss Nina Pham and offer our readers an opportunity to give their well wishes. Nina Pham is one of two nurses who contracted the deadly virus Ebola while caring for Thomas Eric Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas.

Thomas Eric Duncan, a Liberian man who passed away on October 8th, was the first patient in the United States to be diagnosed with the virus on September 30th. Nina Pham, the brave 26 year old Vietnamese nurse from Fort Worth, Texas who as of the time I’m writing this, is currently in fair condition and has been transported to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland after spending the last few days in isolation at Texas Health Presbyterian.

I want to wish Nina a speedy recovery from this disease. My thoughts and prayers go out to her, her family, as well as to Amber Joy Vinson, who is the second nurse that contracted Ebola after treating Mr. Duncan. This incident also raises concerns about how we’re handling those traveling from countries with deadly disease outbreaks and the monitoring of those who may care for them.
