All sorts of requests come through the suggest post page, and some are a little more obscure than others. Longtime reader French suggested we look at American Congressman Joseph Cao’s wife, which was a bit left field but we all love the Frenchman so here she is.
They say that behind every successful man is a great woman and the beautiful Hieu “Kate” Hoang is a fine example. Ánh “Joseph” Quang Cao was the first Vietnamese-American elected to congress. He has an interesting background story leaving Vietnam in 1975 when his father was imprisoned after the Vietnam war.
Joseph and Kate married in 2001 and have two daughters. Kate quit her job as a pharmacist after Joseph entered congress and is now the office manager at the Cao law firm, where they continue to champion the rights of Vietnamese Americans amongst other things.
You’ll have to excuse the pictures as they are mostly focused in the completely wrong direction. Amateurs!

I like that she worked as a pharmacist, is a nice person (I have heard from former staff of her husband), and can light up a room.
New Orleans has a large Vietnamese community, and some good cultural centers. They have done a good job in mixing with non-Viet people instead of staying “within their own”.
Sadly, her husband only served one term (2 years) before he was replaced- but not because of any scandal in that scandal-plagued town, but because it was a town that always voted for the other political party. She grabbed the admiration of quite a few staffers on Capitol Hill when she visited. She dressed to impress.
Beauty, brains, personality. A winner in my book! (and a perfect nose)
