Chinese plastic surgery

The dramatic results of plastic surgery are often discussed here and I must admit I have often queried some of the claims, but hit the jump to see the before pic.

Nik2 alerted us to an article about the difficulty some Chinese ladies are having returning home after going on surgery based holidays to Korea, and the results are pretty extreme. The differences are highlighted by makeup, but I can see why customs has some difficulty accepting that it is the same person, especially in these times of regular security scares. Check out the article here for more examples and an insight into the common procedures. Thanks Nik2 :)

These before and after photos demonstrate some of the techniques I use to spot facial surgery. Note how her nose has become pointed, and the way it extends horizontally forward from her nostrils. Also note the sharpness and projection of her chin in the after shot. And this surgery is relatively subtle and well done—it is often a lot more extreme than this. However, it has become so common now that many people think this the way Asian women actually look these days.

I always look forward to the “Siren” posts on this site. This was a left turn I didn’t see coming. Hoping for a right turn tomorrow!

Some of those women were really helped by surgery. I think the question (for me) is more why go after a western ideal of beauty – understanding it’s an image being sold. My wife has a friend who wants to have her eyes done. It makes my soul weep. :(

If the surgery has helped people to be more comfortable with themselves it is worthwhile.

    smellykev,

And this, dear Kroos, is why we could never be room mates…We would be fighting over the same Siren!

Everyone: Join us! Join the He-Man Asian Sirens Noses Lovers Club! Stop the madness of Western noses on Asian women.

@Romanticwarrior: In Vietnam, women wear ninja jihadi outfits to keep from getting a tan. They ask me why American women WANT a tan. Go figure….

    French,

I imagine it has to do with dark skin means you’re a laborer. For me, a Siren is a Siren. ..it could be a fabulous Japanese woman with that creamy white skin or my pretend gf Xanny Disjad. Jeebus she’s hot!
And say NO to western noses!

It’s too common. I know several girls who had had their eyes enlarged and attempted to add a “bridge” to their nose. Obvious chest enhancement is pretty common now as well. I like natural beauties. I am not offended when they enlarge their eyes or try to add a bridge to the nose so they can at least wear sunglasses. Really, that’s a problem for some girls, no depth to the nose causes their glasses to slide down or they must wear pairs that have the tight tabs so they stay in place. Local procedures for eyes and nose are really cheap and heavily promoted.
I think it’s unfortunate that the huge majority of famous models in China have had procedures done to the point where they look “less” chinese. I hope their is a backlash and sites start to feature girls who are natural. Their are so many beautiful women here, I don’t see the need to focus on girls who don’t even look chinese anymore.
And the skin tone is associated more directly with farmers. If you have darker skin, it’s assumed you come from a farming background. It’s an insult to call a darker skinned girl a “farmer” when in the city.
Strangely, when we foreigners discuss this with local girls, most wonder why we are offended. They think it’s great if they look good and cannot understand why some foreigners don’t find them attractive.
Just the other night a girl walked by our bar table who obviously had had extensive surgery. Guys dismissed her as a fake and the girls all thought she looked great.
I have meet very few chinese men who care if they are natural or not, very few.

I also like the stereotypical Asian nose. With that said, the woman in this example got a fairly traditional Western nose.

I can’t understand why Asian women opt for the huge Western shanzolla. Many Western women, with noses as big as some Asian models chose to make their noses, actually have surgery to reduce their nose size.

I understand the need for plastic surgery for some women. But I think many, if not most, would actually look better by either keeping their original body parts, or getting slight adjustments to correct some obvious flaw.

If there are any Sirens out there who would like to make a trade for part of my (overly large) nose, I’d be more than willing!

That being said, I don’t understand why these ladies almost always want to increase the sizer of their noses and/or chins by so much. A smaller change would seem to be better, but perhaps they think that if the difference is too subtle they aren’t getting their money’s worth.

Not all somewhat large Asian noses are fake–Koreans and northern Chinese often have them.

The Chinese seem to have a lower level of skill (or otherwise have a different set of priorities in what they want), and it seems to me often end up with a strangely generic look (with the full-surgery deal, nose, chin, eyes, etc.).

    Bubba,
Many of those procedures are performed in Korea or Japan. If they have the money, those are the preferred doctors. But I agree, it’s difficult for me to differentiate between some of them who have extensive reconstruction. The key points all look the same not to mention every photographer seems to want the same facial expressions.

i know a Korean girl that does escorting to raise $50k for surgeries! And she’s already beautiful.
once it’s in their mind, drilled in by advertising and cultural representations, when enough will be enough?

    susse,

I didn’t put many pictures in as I find it sad that they feel this way although it is interesting. I wouldn’t want to further encourage it. It reminds me of an post I think CEC did about Korean suicide rates and the fact they were very high. I think there may be a spike in the Chinese figures soon.
