Tony Yang’s Halcyon Vault

Tony Yang is a favourite around here for a very good reason: he is a fantastic photographer and he has impeccable taste when it comes to selecting models to photograph. It is with great pleasure I bring to you Tony’s new venture the Halcyon Vault.

Halcyon [hal-see-uh n] calm; peaceful; tranquil; rich; wealthy; prosperous; happy; joyful; carefree.

I copied that from the website but it’s a pretty good description of the feelings that Tony’s photographs elicit. The website is dedicated to the gorgeous women Tony works with, and we know he has a penchant for Asian girls. You can also ask him anything about, well… anything!

It’s a great place to get extra information about Tony’s work, see behind the scenes pictures from the shoots, read related articles and most importantly find plenty of galleries of Tony’s work. And better still, it’s all free. :)

Outrageously good. Tony is easily the best photog in the field, IMO. His pictures show models who seem to enjoy the experience. They smile. They don’t enrage in ridiculous/unnatural poses. His shots never seem over Photoshopped.

I particularly liked this article, though it contains no photos. Go figure.

For me, the best pic here is the fifth one, as the model has wonderful abs (who is she?), and more importantly, the shot is relatively casual by Tony’s standards, allowing me to feel connected with the model. For me, the (admittedly very high quality) craft of most of his photography makes me feel disconnected with the model, making me focus too much on the image itself rather than the subject of it. I can certainly admire it, but I don’t really enjoy it (I find ” rel=”nofollow”>this shot very sexy though). Obviously however, I’m very much in the minority here—indeed, I find almost all current glamour photography over-produced anyway.

    Dr. Lee,

That’s Kyla Grey who has been featured before. I was reading on there that Tony prefers natural light and the camera setting as a result means a lot of images are slightly out of focus but the ones that work have a wonderful quality. I wonder if the images that work the girl is standing still which might create your feeling of disconnect. I really don’t know much about photography but thought it might be a possibility. FWIW I never got the same feeling, I am constantly blown away. He gets the girls looking their absolute best.

    Luke,

All the images here look very staged, but the Kyla Grey looks “caught in the moment”, which is what I prefer. So I guess you’re right in a sense.

Can’t get enough of Tony Yang’s images. Kyla Grey was a great find. Very refreshing, different, beautiful, sexy and intelligent. There is an element of escapism and fantasy in the pictures that I think Tony is really great at capturing.

Great photos and ladies all, but the 5th photo’s tattoo…not a good choice for her, a bit crass IMHO. It’s easy to read and understand for all so I figure she knew what it meant. Maybe it’s a temporary…
