Luke, this is an interesting example of the issue. I think often what I’ve found is that a good picture (either technically good, or average but capturing a good angle, pose, etc.) sometimes will have one or a few good, sometimes outstanding, elements (which typically key to my preferences which is why I’d notice them), e.g., impossibly white skin or tiny waist; unusually glossy, black hair; full boobs; particular shape of face, etc. Then you look for that element in other photos and it isn’t there. I think at least part of the issue is how much a good photographer can engineer the result.

Mai is a pretty girl, and has beautiful boobs–or so the first pic tells us. Not all the pics live up to it, but on the other hand, I think some others actually do better; e.g., the dusk shots on the beach (#3 and #4 from last pics) she looks really beautiful, and boobs look great. But all the good pictures (including the first) also conceal her least attractive feature, which is a lack of a waistline.

So I think this issue crops up when a good photo emphasizes (or in some cases creates) what’s pretty but unexpectedly conceals what is not.

But look through her other photos for the same and you’ll be disappointed (this is not to say she still isn’t beautiful tho).
