Korean Dance Team Waveya

Most Korean female vocal groups work with choreographers to develop dance routines they perform to their songs that they’ve recorded in the studio. However, it’s no secret that when on stage, they usually lip-sync so they can focus more on the dancing. Well, Waveya is one girl group who can’t be accused of lip-syncing to their songs, because they’re not a singing group, they’re a dance team who perform their routines to mainly (but not strictly) current popular K-pop songs. Some of those performances have been before students at colleges and even high schools, sparking a little controversy due to the girl’s provocative dance moves.

Above are the ladies doing their thing to HyunA’s “Bubble Pop” and “Change.” They are (from left to right in the above still); Hyang, Miu, Ari (leader and choreographer), Doori, and Yuna. Occasional sixth member Yuji isn’t part of this one. See more from them at their Youtube channel and Facebook fan page.

I like these dancers because they do their dances in one take.

I also like that many of their videos are shot in that drab-looking room. Makes it almost like they are auditioning or that they are in some sort of room in a cave owned by a villain in a James Bond movie.

    Man, they can move.

As far as I’m concerned, all the K-pop groups are really dance troupes—real music is irrelevant to their ‘music’ industry; it’s all about the video.

One thing missing in their routines, ME!

Agreed Doc. It’s like they are the Milli Vanilli of Asia. They are definitely NOT the Korean sister group Jayesslee that you profiled here: https://www.asian-sirens.net/blog/comments.php?id=2825_0_1_0_C
…again, bonus with the Aussie accents!

I saw a K-pop group called “Miss A” dance to a tune called I Can’t Breathe a while back. During their post song interview, none of them could explain what the song was about or who wrote it. Sad.

A lot of the K-pop groups were not really groups, but people who showed up at auditions and a “band” was formed right then and there.

Still, I like to watch 18+ Korean women dancing around.

This is the opposite of the David Bowie/Queen song Under Pressure. That official video has neither David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, nor any member of Queen but wow, what a tune!

    French,

That is the best duet ever IMO, really makes the most of both singers talents.
These dancers are very sexy, they seem to have grasped the spirit of Beyonce pretty well.

There is one group I will disagree on the singing part at least…..2NE1. I’ve found a few acoustic versions of some of their songs that they sing with a solo guitar player. CL has a decent voice, Minzy too. Dara and Bom are ok. But it wasn’t pre-recorded. Plus there is a video from their tour on YouTube. They used a live band and although they did sing along to backing track, you could still hear when they put effort into really singing.
Oh, and Hyorin from Sistar has a killer voice when she really sings live….again, found YouTube clips from radio appearances

I guess I will just never get it. Do people actually pay to see something like this? It has zero artistic merit. How is it any different than a bunch of teenage girls dancing in their bedroom? Unless they’re going to dance in a lot less clothing, they would lose my interest in about 30 seconds.

Their Gangnam style dance is a classic, Id pay to see that live

I think it is in all good fun , something they enjoy doing. and it is a physical activity that keeps them in shape. I been watching their vids on youtube for some time now. Very attractive girls.

The one video is funny where they perform at a boy’s high school , and all the teen boys are jumping up and high fiving each other lol
