'Plastic fantastic' in Asia

Plastic Surgery TIME Asia

Changing Faces...and thighs, calves, busts—you name it. from Seoul to Surabaya, Asians are turning to cosmetic surgery like never before.

I found this very long and interesting (especially for our doctor Lee ;-)) article at TIME Asia. Find out all there is to know about the current status of plastic surgery in Asia. (Thanks to Jean!)

See also this article. It has clear before and after eyelid surgery pic! Do you prefer before or after?

I'm not against all surgery, but these are the types of surgeries that I am against; surgeries that alter someone's look to fit someone else's idea of what's beautiful. As long as women only have one idea of what is beautiful or see an image of beauty that is dominant in media, then it will get worse.

Men and women who have surgery put themselves at risk of becoming the victim of bad surgery no matter what part of the world they are in, especially those who cannot afford a great doctor.

Personally, I don't want people to surgically alter ones look to fit the notion of what someone else thinks is beautiful and losing their uniqueness, but there is nothing I can do to stop it. But if surgery makes them happy, and they want to take that risk, then they should be happy and have surgery.

The young woman who had eyelid surgery looks better after the surgery. I just hope that she's happier with bigger eyes. Why get rid of something that makes you unique?

Thanks Jean! To be honest I think I actually marginally prefer the after shot in this case. I don't have a big problem with minor surgery like eyelid surgery, as I don't think this fundamentally changes a person's looks - it just fine tunes them (like make-up or a change of hair style, for example). However, I do often have a problem with nose jobs and especially chin jobs, as these often have disastrous results. At least they often make them look a lot less 'Asian'.
