XXX: Porn Portraits

Tera Patrick in XXX

Timothy Greenfield-Sanders' book XXX features paired portraits (one clothed and one nude) of the top stars in pornographic film. A cross section of straight and gay men and women is represented, from porn legends to rising stars. The book also includes 15 short essays on the intersection of pornography and culture by a wide range of distinguished writers. Greenfield-Sanders also made a documentary "Thinking XXX", a film about the making of the XXX book. It first aired in October 2004 on HBO.

I found out about the book in the new SNOECKS 2006. (An annual Dutch/Flamish book about photography, film, literature, art, architecture and design). I never was a big fan of Tera Patrick, but thought it might be interesting to address the book for the fans.

Tera Patrick is half Thai, quarter British and quarter Dutch. She learned when she was a teenager that sex is power, and "I knew from the start that I had that power." Not many years later, within one month, she featured the covers of both Playboy and Penthouse. She did dozens of porn movies before she started her own production company in 2004: Teravision. "I want to make movies that at the same time are beautiful, naughty and fun. Sex is fun, that is the message."

Very interesting (and for me quite erotic) pic!

Because of these photo's? ;-)

Well these photos are not that good. I don't know why Tera's face is green on the left.

Tera was very beautiful when she first came on the scene, but she had to surgically alter her look like most porn stars. She had a very unique beauty to her that she ruined in my opinion.

Some people do need surgery. But all too often, I see the women who clearly don't need surgery are having surgery and ruining their natural beauty. Clearly, Tera did not need surgery, but she messed up her nose and her breasts. She had a great pair of breasts back in the day. They were great to look at in a industy filled with women with horribly augmented boobies.

To be honest. I don't like these photo's at all... But there were more with the story, and some were good.

I like the conecept: ordinary clothes, no make-up vs. nude, full make-up. It's like undressing her body and 'dressing up' her face at the same time. It also stimulates fantasies of 'mentally undressing' a sexy woman you might see on the street, for example.

As for Tera's surgery, I actually think it's pretty good: her facial surgery looks natural (not 'plastic') and I love her boob job. On the other hand, I do agree the facial surgery was completely unnecessary - I don't think it's made her looks any better (or worse).
