Yu Namiki

JAV girls are never that interesting. Everyone usually finds them cute, few people rave about them, etc., etc. In general, it's best to feature one of two types of women: Models that everyone loves, or models that some people will like a lot and some people won't like at all. Well, I mean.... Japan is essentially America, except everyone is one ethnicity. If you were to count up every American model, you'd get thousands, but they would all look different (blond, brunette, tall, short, fat, tan, pale, black, white, Asian, Hispanic). Take the equivalent number in Japan, which is almost as large a country, and you get a ton of models that all have the same qualities (short-ish, generally thin, black hair, medium light skin, Japanese eyes, Japanese lips, Japanese torso), which makes it seem like there are more of them. In reality, I would say there are almost too few JAV models considering the size of the country and the availability/legality of pornography.

I for one would not complain. Not my favorite in the whole wide world, but certainly not bad. Far from it.

Travis: I'm not buying what you're selling that JAV models are, for the most part, uninteresting. Perhaps to those who are:

This girl is simply gorgeous. Of course, that's a completely subjective opinion but I sometimes wonder if seeing too much of a good thing is... well, a good thing. Also, I suspect if there were a few pics of her here in more compromising, sultry, or sexually explicit positions she'd have a few more heads turning.

Shuai Ge: The US is roughly 2.5x larger in population than Japan. Pretty crazy considering the size of the island. Even crazier is that the Greater Tokyo Area alone has 35 million people!

In the end I'm going to have to echo Christine's sentiments above: we are very spoiled. :-)

Hm... Uninteresting because the photography is the same and Japanese models are everywhere. The ones that I like I don't like any less because they're JAV, but it is not hard to find similar poses, photography, facial expressions, etc. around the Internet, which makes them less exciting. Once again, no less pretty, just less exciting.

125 million people in a country that has similar (obviously not exact, but close enough for these purposes) standards for pornography distribution still means thousands upon thousands of Japanese models. 1/3 the size of America means 1/3rd of the models, and since there are probably 10,000 or more nude models in America, that's 3,333 JGirls to feature at minimum, with more coming every day.

I think the Japanese have much higher standards for their porn stars. Japanese AV girls may seem kind of 'bland' if you've been into the AV scene for years and years and have seen thousands of pictures of hundreds of videos, but you can't deny that on average they are a heck of a lot prettier than American porn stars. You might think that after a while all Japanese AV girls look and act somewhat alike, but at least you'll never run into an 'ugly' one and chances are pretty good you'll get a few 9+'s in any given video. American porn stars are lucky to crack a 7 on average, and a lot of them are downright ugly, sorry to say.

I don't think I'm being overly biased against non-asian girls to say that either--the Asian American porn stars have plenty of blech to offer as well. Generally speaking, some American porn stars have horrible breast jobs, horrifying makeup, horrible tats, and often times are not in the best of shape either, with fat rolls, cottage cheese ass/thighs, and skin discoloration or even wrinkles (oftentimes due to drug abuse). You just never ever see that with JAV girls. Or at least I haven't.

Japan is very different from the US. Very different culture--both its mass culture and its high culture. Different aesthetic sense. It has been heavily impacted by the US since the end of WWII, but Western influence is typically filtered and intergrated in a uniquely Japanese way.

The JAV scene is actually quite diverse. Short and tall (like Chihiru Hara). Slender and chubby (like Fuko). Young and old (the "mature" market has exploded in recent years). Black hair and dyed brown and blondies. Urbanites and country girls. Kawaii girls and middle aged housewifes supposedly out for a fling. Goths and lolicon girls and hip hop girls, etc., etc., etc.

I agree with most of what Dongbeiyemer says. "I think the Japanese have much higher standards for their porn stars."

That is absolutely not true. There are hundreds of AV girls that are pretty much awful. They simply do not get the modeling photos done, and they are not talked about online. But rest assured there are some hilariously unattractive Japanese adult movie starts.

Remember that the American adult film industry is pretty much concentrated in LA and environs, (which is why you get the beauty aesthetics of that region featured in almost all American porn). Another side effect is that, unless a girl made her way to LA (or is from there), she'll likely not meet anyone in the adult film industry and enter that world. I believe JAV production companies are in many major cities, and Japan is so dense that nearly everyone is in or near a major city.

I wish the girls that sat around me when I take a bus trip in Japan would be so bold.
