The state of Asian porn

image

Content providers of Asian erotica once considered themselves members of a unique niche, but they now share the perils and pitfalls of the adult online arena. All ambitious webmasters need to remain vigilant, because adult businesses no longer can afford to see product split into the old brick-and-mortar and click-and-mortar worlds.

Companies now compete in an intensely demand-driven environment with consumers' enjoying an array of options never before available, and so an economic Darwinian situation has developed. Full story here.

Time for a little feminist bashing here...and while I'm at it..may just a well backhand the social/religious conservatives too.ALL THREE CAMPS were of the same mind: PORN IS DESTRUCTIVE...PORN WILL LEAD TO INCREASED VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN...PORN OBJECTIFIES WOMEN...WOMEN DON"T LIKE PORN.Shut the f**k up!

1) Women make porn. They profit hansdomely in front of and BEHIND the camera. They are the directors /producers/webmistresses/and actors.

2) Destructive? Ha! A tobacco habit is destructive.A drinking problem is destructive.Masturbating and then falling off to sleep probably does'nt make you eligible for rehab.

3) PORN ABSOLUTELY OBJECTIFIES WOMEN.It also objectifies men...and sex...various fetishes.What's your point?
The fact that some women enter the business for self destructive reasons says more about their upbringing than the industry.

4) Violence against women in Western societies HAS NOT increased...but the REPORTING AND VILIFICATION of it sure has.A good thing if you ask me.

5) If some women really don't like porn it has to do with NOT LIKING COMPETITION for attention.TOUGH!

BTW.That is one sexy picture...and I'm not even into leather.I'm ready to take a gallon of mineral oil to that cutie on the floor.

Worth noting here is that there's such a glut of porn these days that most structured porn companies are actually FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES.No more 30dollar DVD's.Next to impossible to brand a star-or stable of stars.
You really are in the biz for fun these days.

Gotta agree with Stripes on all counts here. As somebody involved in producing and promoting adult content myself, I can personally confirm that it's pretty tough these days - it certainly isn't the easy money a lot of people think it is any more.

And porn is most definitely not destructive. In fact, I think it performs a valuable service to society. What would all those horny guys do if they couldn't get their rocks of this way? Porn leads to LESS abuse of women (especially sexual abuse), not more.

Have to agree that women do it on their own will. And porn can be good in so many ways.

Behind the camera there are both women and men, but women play a very important part.

That article is a bit strange, since it mentions China as a powerful source of revenue, but porn is highly persecuted there.

another article from the same link covered a topic in the same vein as one discussed here about racial slurs..."round-eyed devils think alike" i love it!

danzlover, prostitution is illegal in thailand and as far as i know, so is porn...not 100% on that

i agree with all that is said above, however, it is important to point out that although it is accepted in the west that porn does not necessarily exploit women for certain means, it is a different ball-game in southeast asia. at least from what i could tell during my time spent there. while economics may play into it, that is not always the case as it has been well documented that many women "serving" in the sex industry in countries like thailand, cambodia, vietnam and to varying degrees burma, malaysia, singapore and indonesia try to support families and/or a drug habit or are trying to pay off a smuggler who "bought" her from her family. indeed some of these women were sold into it and are trying to buy their way out.

i can watch and enjoy porn from japan (even with the annoying pixelations) and legitimate "amateur" stuff from elsewhere like anyone else, but there is some that is just outright degrading not only from a gender point of view but a racial one too. not only in the photographs but descriptions as well. it may be bogus, it may be real, but it is tasteless all the same (my opinion)

the soapbox is now open...

oedipusrex, while porn is illegal in Thailand, there is some porn going on. But China is a lot more strict on porn and prostitution (except if it is for panda bears, lol)

Regarding the sex industry, is true that some are slavered into that, as in other parts of the world. But, 90% of the time, in SE asia, girls and families just accept that they become bar girls, so they can help the families and support themselves. It is mostly a matter of economics. It is either that or starving. There are no other jobs for all those women.

And if, while working, they find themselves a foreign man, then that's the ultimate win. I don't blame them, they are women and use their resources to survive. Must be respected for that, if they play fair.

Posted by: daznlover on Jun 30, 07 | 7:27 pm

I can only speak to the sex industry in the U.S. If the game is played the way OEDIPUSREX says it is in S.E. Asia...that sounds like a consciousness-raising issue among women that needs to happen there.A dicey proposition at best in those countries where there are signicificant numbers of Muslims.

pandas? SICKO! lol.
you make a good point daz. there is no doubt that a majority of the bargirls make it a personal choice and whether it is economics or just lack of education or will to do anything esle (these are not the brightest girls in the bunch, my experience) is open for debate. if it is a true choice, then i cannot argue with it. also, i dont think bargirls classify as true prostitutes in the strictest sense.

and even though prostitution is officially illegal in all countries in southeast asia, there are too many holes in their legal systems for people to fall through the cracks and way too many girls as young as 4 years old (according to a report i saw on cnbc and books andarticles i have read from journalists and expats) get into it supports the idea that many are sold into it from poor families. and the sickos (western and asian alike) who patronize those places are only feeding the hunger. money speaks louder than laws in developing nations.
in mainland china, i can see your point. but in hong kong, macau and taiwan it is much more in the open.

no doubt porn is going on, i have seen some of the "mainstream" stuff from thailand which i find to be more in line with its western counterpart without the kink, fetish, and polish (and censorship) of the japanese stuff.

a note on bargirls. at least they are honest in a back-handed kind of way. they want a rich man (as does any other girl on this planet. and some guys too i guess) and to optimumly play the field these girls can juggle 5, 6 or more guys at the same time usually with them being none the wiser. if you need help organizing your busy work schedule, get yourself one of these girls. they may not be the smartest in the world, but they can fill a planner with the best of them!

peace. oed

i didnt read the comments..too busy looking at the boobies :)) ha ha

Posted by: LawBoy on Jun 30, 07 | 10:56 pm

'also, i dont think bargirls classify as true prostitutes in the strictest sense. '

That's why those countries claim prostitution is illegal, but let the bargirls do the job.

Regarding the rest of the situations, it's unfortunate, if it happens. Authorities are on it, I hope. Grown up women have their own will, and when they are over 18 and do it consciously, it's their thing.

Bargirls sure keep good schedules! And wonderful story tellers... :)
