Japanese women bust out

image

All over Japan, retailers are scrambling to keep up with a new look known as "bon-kyu-bon." It means "big-small-big" and it signals a change in the way Japanese women look: they're getting curvier.

I for one think this is a good thing. Meanwhile, Japanese stores that used to keep just two or three sizes of clothing on hand are rushing to stock larger sizes. Full story here.

Posted by: brayker19 on May 15, 07 | 4:45 pm

never mind i realized who it was

Posted by: brayker19 on May 15, 07 | 4:46 pm

yes! finally nutrition and exercise are winning out over the shortcomings of the very small japanese gene pool! a very good thing, indeed!

i noticed this trend while i was living there (10 years). more long legs, bigger busts, and fewer bad teeth. good, good, and good!

Posted by: newworks on May 15, 07 | 5:48 pm

that bottom picture of kumi koda is absolutely hot. a sexy, sexy woman indeed.

Posted by: arf on May 15, 07 | 7:59 pm

i am sure we can get some volunteers to inject fresh genes into the japanese's gene pool :)))

Talking about biogenetics now LawBoy? Thought you were a law boy. :)

"Sometimes the buttons would burst off."

Lovely (assuming she was over 18, of course!). :)

"The 24-year-old star has become the champion of a new "If you've got it, flaunt it" attitude among young Japanese women."

Bring it on, ladies!

Posted by: daznlover on May 16, 07 | 3:13 am

Westernisation, here it comes (some more) :(

Posted by: LondonGaijin on May 16, 07 | 3:17 am

there con's too this but there are also pro's

Posted by: schemed 1 on May 16, 07 | 5:45 am

Sorry...not seeing ANY downside.

Posted by: STRIPES on May 16, 07 | 7:54 am

yeah; what cons are there to this? unless you are into bad teeth, flat chests and "daikon ashi" (japanese slang for short thick legs)...

Posted by: newworks on May 16, 07 | 10:01 am

and by the way, i disagree with the article that "if you got it, flaunt it" is a new phenomenon in japan. that has been going on for a long time! i remember the first time i ever went there in 1989, the big trend was "bodikon" (body-conscious), and all the girls were wearing these cheesy skin-tight spandex one-piece mini-dresses, etc. j-girls have been exhibitionists for a long time!

the difference is that now more and more of them actually have the BODIES to show off. no cons there! maybe i should go back... :-)

Good improvement in Japan.

By the way, are you sure this girl comes from Japan? According to me only girls in small number who makes curve in their body.
No heart feeling please.

I agree that it cold be due to some western influence, but hey thats where I am and I don't mind it too much. However one thing I love about most of the Japanese culture that I hope never changes is that it was never sluty, it was sexy, passionate but never over done is distasteful there could be nudity all around but there was still art. I hope that is never lost as it was genuine and uncanny.

Posted by: bigstusexy on May 16, 07 | 2:22 pm

niners: she's 100% japanese, don't worry.

bigstu: i guess you haven't seen as much japanese culture as i have. there is all kinds of slutty and distasteful stuff. no more or less than any other place, though.

Posted by: newworks on May 16, 07 | 6:46 pm

her boobs may very well be fake, though.

Posted by: newworks on May 16, 07 | 6:48 pm

"her boobs may very well be fake, though."

Not that there's anything wrong with that... ;-)

Posted by: Asian connoisseur on May 16, 07 | 8:25 pm

To me there is. I prefer a natural look, no matter the size.

I don't see more doughnuts, ice cream, red meat, and fries as "better" nutrition. Such diets may produce bodies more pleasing to Western tastes, hence the Japanese desire to emulate & imitate them, unfortunately. But the longterm costs in terms of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, & obesity are a sure resulting aftermath in, say, 25 years from now.

I prefer the old-school Japanese body, as long as there are no daikon thighs.

Posted by: luvjgirls on May 17, 07 | 12:04 am

True, I hope they keep their nutrition, their health and don't get fat. Geeze, now that would kill the japanese attraction...

Posted by: daznlover on May 17, 07 | 1:34 am

Let me amend that:
With such changes occuring & accelerating, following the pattern of the West, I envision obesity in Japan jumping from the current 5% to 40% in about ten years. Not a pretty picture.

Posted by: luvjgirls on May 17, 07 | 5:50 am

luvjgirls: sorry... did i miss something? 5% and 40% of what?

and do i understand you correctly? you think that the japanese are eating doughnuts, ice cream, etc. to look "more pleasing to western tastes"? believe me, there is not a nation on this side of the pacific that cares less about what the west thinks of them than japan. they take what they like from us and they say "no thanks" to the rest, and they don't care what we think. trust me.

but i do agree with you about fake tits. :-)

Posted by: newworks on May 17, 07 | 1:11 pm

I think tits are swell. Especially theirs.

Posted by: arf on May 17, 07 | 9:23 pm

Newworks, thank you for your information.

Posted by: Niners on May 18, 07 | 6:42 am

Newworks: I estimate that currently 5% of Japanese girls are fat, and that in ten years, at the current rate of changes there, close to 40% of them will be fat, thus nearly matching stats in the West.

I didn't mean that was their intent, to appeal to Westerners. It's just the logical consequence of their trying to emulate Angelina Jolie & Pam Anderson.

But since you brought it up: there are many examples, both historical & current, of Japan being overly concerned with what the West thinks of them. Until Adm. Perry landed mixed baths were the rule. Because the foreigners were so shocked, such practices, especially in the large cities, were soon curtailed. Gov't also cracked down on prostitution & erotic art. In modern times they have cracked down on teen prostitution, largely in response to the national embarrassment of the Time Magazine article "Japan's Dirty Secret".

Japan doesn't care about their national face? Right.

Posted by: luvjgirls on May 19, 07 | 7:17 am

what are your estimates based on? curious...

i don't think that they will ever be as fat as americans; it's not in their genetic make-up.

mixed baths, prostitution, and erotic art all are still thriving, and none of it is underground. the uproar over teen prostitution was more from the japanese themselves than from foreigners. i was there and i remember. japanese people don't need foreigners to tell them that schoolgirls selling themselves to buy prada handbags is f**ked up! give them a little credit!

and adm. perry arriving with big guns and an ultimatum isn't exactly a relevant comparison to the times that we are living in now.

but back to the original point: the food that they are eating and its effect on their bodies has nothing to do at all with them trying to emulate anyone. they are eating the stuff because they like it! just like they listen to western music because they like it and wear western fashions because they like them.

and fortunately for guys like me, date gaijin because they like them! :-)

Kudos to that! :)

Interesting readings.

Hope this becomes a global trend. :)
