Jerry Polence, Filipina Cosplay Idol

Jerry Polence as Shiva

I cosplay mainly because it is fun. It is a very interesting hobby that promotes creativity and craftsmanship while also building character. Multiawarded Filipina cosplay idol Jerry Polence (her stage name) has been wowing audiences since 2003. She is also founder and administrator of PinoyCosplay.com, and the chief proponent for Philippine representation at the World Cosplay Summit. Here are just some of her winning costumes.

She makes costumes for cosplayers worldwide, too.

I must admit,"cosplay" is new to me as I have not been a follower of this trend...

um...does ANYONE find this stuff to be erotic, sexy, or a turn-on? I know they are girls and all but come on! Nerds unite! :)

Krazy4Kobe: You'd said you'd date Shocotan, right? ;)

I have to say I'm with K4K on this one.

Merely featuring the essence of Asian beauty. :)

Don't get me wrong Mike, you are very welcome to post this stuff - it just doesn't turn me on. I guess the subtext of K4K's statement is: what exactly is the appeal of it?

MoƩ.

I always thought Cosplay was when Japanese business men took a call girl to the love motel and she dressed up like "Little Bo-Peep"!?

Glad to enlighten you, Subic Man.

Posted by: Mike Abundo on Sep 20, 06 | 3:09 pm

Mikey -- yeah I did say that...but only if she wore her schoolgirl or catgirl outfit! :P Anything more "cosplay" than that just doesn't spell sexy.

Posted by: Krazy4Kobe on Sep 20, 06 | 3:41 pm

Krazy: Call me jaded. It takes a lot more than schoolgirls and catgirls to impress me.

Posted by: Mike Abundo on Sep 20, 06 | 3:44 pm

I'm not looking to be impressed ;) ha!

And that's ok with me -- just means more school-&-cat girls for me!

Cosplay is a world wide hobby. It doesnt get much mainstream media attention but do trust that millions upon millions (ok maybe not that may) of people yearly participate in cosplay.

Cosplay is mostly done out of enjoyment and celebration of the character portrayed. Even the most tacky of cosplay costumes could have taken hours to craft.

Respect the craft for their dedication if nothing else.

Well-said, Auron!

Nice blog. Subscribed!

Oh, and Auron, you'll be pleased to know that cosplay gets lots of attention in the Philippines. Jerry herself is interviewed here.

Interesting. Much much better then the sub par Americanized coplay that I have to live with...

Posted by: Auron on Sep 21, 06 | 8:41 am

Oh and thanks for Subcribing to my blog Mike.

AMS is no where near the quality of this site but we try to entertain our visitors.

Posted by: Auron on Sep 21, 06 | 8:46 am

Indeed I am entertained, Auron. Maybe you can feature cosplay models sometime. :)

Posted by: Mike Abundo on Sep 21, 06 | 8:48 am

Looks like Jerry's advocacy has prompted an influential Filipino blogger to do some digging. ;)

Jerry did two photoshoots over the weekend. Check out her new costumes: schoolgirl, robot girl, gothic lolita, and fantasy dominatrix playboy bunny.
